The village of Garcilaso's castle and the river Guadarrama
Batres is known for its castle, a fortified palace built between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries where the poet Garcilaso de la Vega lived; today it is privately owned. Much of its municipal area lies within the Parque Regional del curso medio del río Guadarrama (a regional park along the middle course of the river), with the river crossing the municipality from north to south, which explains all the open countryside around the village.
